Why didn’t you just leave Sudan and find opportunity elsewhere? “Well, here’s the thing: there are so many opportunities out there, but I want to live here. I want to give to this country, this is my country!” How did you start a business in such bad economic circumstances? “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of friends and family. My cousins helped me so much and stood by me. They spent long hours and even spent nights over to build this business, for no reward whatsoever! You can’t find that abroad.”

I asked her where here husband was. She hesitantly answered that he had gone to Libya 7 years ago and there had been no word of him ever since. She had to work as a tea-lady to provide for her children and pay for their schools. She starts working at dawn everyday, and is done by sunset

Alsadig from El-Gadarif, a poet full of verse. The instant he saw us he improvised beautiful poetry, part of which I understood . and the rest I did not. I asked him to repeat it so as to record it. He said that was improvisational, and that he had a 4000 GB memory
